Recently, the mother of a dear friend passed away. Marian had lived a long, full and meaningful life inspired by a fierce love of family, friends and community. Among her many accomplishments, Marian was a fabulous cook and she loved nothing more than to gather people around her dining room table.
Marian celebrated everything! Birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, reunions, baptisms, engagements and just about any other occasion you can think of. There was always something to celebrate, and the food she prepared was always plentiful and delicious. And, of course, there was always space for one more at the table. Everyone was welcome.
While Marian certainly loved to cook and entertain, her passion was to build community and make people feel connected. She understood that when we break bread and celebrate our lives together, we grow to trust and love one another. We grow to learn that we belong to something greater than ourselves.
There could be no finer tribute to Marian’s love for her community than to feed all 160 of the people who attended her Celebration of Life! Following in her mother’s footsteps, Marian’s daughter Shauna prepared a feast with the help of several dear friends who were thrilled to be part of this special event. Shauna’s sister, Delyse, joked in her eulogy, “If you were sitting next to one of Shauna’s friends you would know because they smelled like tomato sauce after cooking all morning.”
Marian would have loved it!
She would have loved that everyone was enjoying intimate conversations, many good laughs, and truly wonderful food made with much love. It was a perfect celebration of her wonderful life.
